Looking back at 2025

2025 was our fourth year growing flowers for market. One goal from the past season was high tunnel growing for early spring blooms. In the High Tunnel we overwintered Campanula(bell flowers), snapdragons, Orlaya, Eucalyptus and Ranunculus.

We wanted to see how close we could come to making bouquets for Mother’s Day. The filler - Orlaya with its tiny white florets reminiscent to Queen Anne’s Lace - starting blooming in April. The snapdragons starting blooming the second week of May (missed Mother’s Day by one week). The Campanula started blooming the third week of May (missed Mother’s Day by two weeks. The Ranunculus was blooming by the end of May.

We had the earliest bouquets and some of the most beautiful we ever created, but Mother’s Day was missed by about a week and a half. We will continue to tinker with timing and varieties, along with subtle changes in cultivation practices to reach the goal of suppling customers with beauty bouquets.

The biggest takeaway for us is that high tunnel grwoing is a great environment for overwintering cool season blooms and an overall wonderful environment for growing a large selection of many blooms. The Campanula, Ranunculus, Orlaya, snapdragons, a little bit of Bupleurum, and Eucalyptus were incredibly vigorous and robust with long healthy stems. Growing undercover is definitely a game changer.
